As-Built Surveys Explained
These are (usually) land surveys, which are carried out as the name suggests after the site work has been completed, so the land survey is of the finished or part completed site. Usually this type of land survey is requested by house-builders and developers, prior to handing over the site to the local authority.
We have also been approached by the Ordnance Survey to let them use some of our topographic survey work within their national survey network.
Occasionally we have been asked to visit a site when a project has run into trouble. This is generally because a topographic survey has not been commissioned at the outset or the original topographic survey has many inaccuracies and lacks detail. We have formed many long standing relationships with clients after rescuing them from a survey problem.
As-built surveys have other purposes such as providing the client with a set of reference drawings as a part of their estate management. These topographic or floor plan surveys can then be used as a base for space planning, calculating floor areas for rent reviews, marking on other services and for refurbishment.
